Study English in Bristol

Welcome to one of the great historic cities in England.

Bristol is an elegant English city , drawn by the silhouette of the Avon River that separates southern England from Wales. Since the beginning , its prosperity has been linked to its commercial port that originated the city center .

Bristol has always had an adventurous spirit. In the past, explorers departed from the port in search of new horizons and adventures; Today, this bold and creative spirit is reflected in its art and architecture. Bristol is one of the largest cultural centers in the region , a city that promotes modern culture and sounds of the new generations, diverse music, alternative fashion and abstract art galleries .

It is famous for its theatre , music and cinema . It also has an exceptional location in the west of the country , surrounded by coast and countryside, and has all the natural beauty which is lacking in other large cities like London and Birmingham.

Useful Information:

Getting around the city

Bristol is big but you won´t have problems getting around the city.
There are many types of transport but the bus is the best as there are regular and prompt services that can take you anywhere in Bristol.
There is also a night service called The Night Flyers Bus that runs on weekends ( Friday and Saturday ) from eight at night until the morning.

There are also many taxis available which are safe and cheap. For safety take a black taxi.

Interesting things about Bristol

  • Bristol is the eighth city in England and the eleventh biggest in the UK.
  • It is well connected with Spain . The low cost airlines which fly to Bristol are RyanAir and Easyjet .
  • It is 90 minutes from London and 10 minutes from Bath by train.
  • Population: 450,000.
  • The quality of life in the city is the highest in the country.
  • It is one of the main tourist destinations in the UK .
  • The inhabitants of the city are famous for being very welcoming.

What to see in Bristol

  • The Bristol Zoo - 450 species of exotic and endangered animals.
  • Clifton Suspension Bridge - is the symbol of the city. An impressive suspension bridge between Avan Gorge cliffs.
  • Wooky Hole Caves : the famous caves where the legendary witch Wooky lived
  • The Botanical Garden of the University.

And at night?

Bristol at night is very lively . The town has plenty of bars and places to have a drink. You can go to a ' lounge bar' or have a beer in a crowded pub. We recommend going to a pub which makes their own cider. The most popular is The Coronation Tap on the streets of Clifton Village.
If you want a more lively and funky atmosphere you can go to some of the bars of the White Ladies or Park Street where most young people go and there is a good atmosphere.
If you want to dance, the best known and commercial clubs are The Lizard Lounge where there are always a lot of people, Wedgies, The Fez Club and The Bristol Academy.
